The Scottish club Rangers are once again showing interest in striker Tyrese Campbell, who recently became a free agent after his contract with Stoke City expired. The 24-year-old forward is currently considering his options, and it seems that the Glasgow-based team is keen on bringing him on board.
In 2020, Rangers had their eyes set on Campbell, when then-manager Steven Gerrard was contemplating a pre-contract agreement. Although rivals Celtic were also interested at the time, Campbell decided to stay put with Stoke City.
Now, things have taken a turn as Campbell looks for new opportunities away from the Potters. Reports from The Daily Mail suggest that Rangers aren’t alone in this chase; several English Championship clubs such as Sheffield United, West Brom, QPR, Preston North End, and Cardiff are all competing for Campbell’s signature.
Campbell has left an indelible mark during his stint at Stoke City by netting 36 goals and providing 21 assists over 164 games. His exit coincides with comments from Philippe Clement hinting that Rangers might need to sell players to finance incoming transfers.
Clement has openly discussed the financial tactics of the club stating: “That’s the reality.” He admits being surprised by this strategy but remains dedicated to ensuring both immediate success and long-term stability for Rangers.
As we delve further into the transfer window, it will be intriguing to see whether Rangers can secure Campbell’s services or if they’ll encounter fierce competition from other teams looking to take advantage of his status as a free agent.
