Newcastle: Confirmed serious injury to this key player

Newcastle United has announced that promising left-back Lewis Hall will be out for the rest of the season due to a serious foot injury. Following a comprehensive evaluation by a specialist, it was determined that he will require surgery to facilitate his recovery.

Originally, Hall was expected to miss the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on March 16, having already been sidelined during Newcastle’s FA Cup loss to Brighton. The full extent of his injury has now been assessed, prompting the decision for surgical intervention.

In a statement, Newcastle expressed their disappointment: “Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot. Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.” The club also extended their best wishes for his upcoming surgery and recovery process.

This injury is particularly unfortunate for Newcastle, especially with a pivotal match at Wembley on the horizon. Hall’s absence is further exacerbated by the suspension of teammate Anthony Gordon, who received a straight red card during the match against Brighton. Newcastle has opted not to contest this decision, leaving them without two crucial players for the final.

With both Hall and Gordon unavailable, manager Eddie Howe faces a significant tactical challenge. Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes are anticipated to step in for Hall and Gordon as they prepare to confront the formidable Liverpool duo of Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Hall’s season had been a standout, with the 20-year-old establishing himself as a key player for Newcastle. He has made 34 appearances across all competitions, contributing five assists, and even earned his first two senior caps for England last November.

Unfortunately for Hall, his injury comes at a crucial juncture, as he was likely to be selected for Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. In his absence, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly may seize the opportunity to fill the left-back position for the matches against Albania and Latvia.
