Newcastle United is reportedly interested in signing Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, who is set to leave the club following their relegation. However, several other Premier League teams including West Ham, Aston Villa, and Tottenham have also expressed interest in the 25-year-old England international. The main obstacle for Newcastle is the price tag, as they are being cautious with their spending after recently acquiring Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for £52m.
Despite considering other options such as Nico Williams from Bilbao and Ferran Torres from Barcelona, Newcastle still has Barnes on their radar due to his Premier League experience. Barnes had an impressive season last year, scoring 13 goals for a struggling Leicester side. It is expected that he will leave before the end of the transfer window, following James Maddison’s move to Tottenham for £45m.
Leicester was originally hoping to receive £80m for both Barnes and Maddison but may have to lower their expectations. They remain optimistic that Barnes can be sold for around £35m.
In addition to pursuing Barnes, Newcastle is also looking to strengthen their squad by adding a full-back, center back, and forward who can cut in from the wing.
