Rangers officials have refuted suggestions that Norwegian midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl is preparing to join the club on a substantial transfer. The 20-year-old prospect had appeared destined for Turkish club Besiktas, but that move fell through unexpectedly at the final stage.
Italian media sources with credible track records reported that Hjerto-Dahl stood one step away from Rangers. Lazio and several other Serie A clubs had previously pursued the talented midfielder, yet he reportedly favored a Besiktas switch.
Multiple clubs expressed interest in acquiring Hjerto-Dahl, including Union Berlin and English Premier League sides Bournemouth, Liverpool, and Everton. The midfielder’s preference remained with Besiktas until negotiations unexpectedly collapsed.
When Besiktas failed to finalize terms for the player, valued around £8 million, speculation intensified that Rangers had moved decisively to secure his signature. However, sources close to Ibrox have rejected these claims outright, stating negotiations never reached an advanced stage.
Rangers insiders disclosed that competitive bidding from multiple suitors had driven the asking price beyond what the Scottish club was prepared to invest. The escalating valuation became a barrier to any concrete discussion.
Hjerto-Dahl has represented Norway’s Under-21 team on six occasions and made 87 appearances for Tromso’s senior squad following his professional debut in 2023. His current contract with the Norwegian club extends until December 2027, though his rising profile suggests an early departure remains likely.
