Arsenal progressed to the League Cup final by securing a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates. Chelsea arrived at the stadium already trailing 3-2 from the first leg at Stamford Bridge, placing them in a precarious position requiring a strong second-leg performance.
Chelsea pressed hard searching for an equalizing goal throughout the match. However, their attacking efforts proved unsuccessful against a resilient Arsenal defence. The Blues’ desperate push for a late leveller ultimately backfired when Kai Havertz capitalized on a counter-attack in stoppage time to seal Arsenal’s progression and eliminate his former club.
Defensively, Chelsea demonstrated considerable strength. Fofana and Chalobah were particularly solid in central defence, handling Arsenal’s attacking threats effectively. Chalobah produced a notable sliding challenge against Martinelli late in the match. Hato impressed on debut in the back three, displaying composure under pressure. Gusto proved defensively competent at right wing-back, successfully containing Arsenal’s wide threats during the first half.
Chelsea’s midfield failed to establish control. Caicedo remained largely anonymous throughout, unable to dominate proceedings against Rice as anticipated. Santos, given an opportunity under Rosenior, performed basic defensive duties without creating meaningful attacking contributions. Fernandez produced Chelsea’s only shot on target with a long-range first-half attempt but lacked creative impact overall.
The attacking players struggled significantly. Delap, deployed unusually on the right wing, worked hard physically but generated minimal attacking output or quality. Pedro battled persistently against Arsenal’s defence yet received insufficient service. Estevao and Palmer, introduced as substitutes, failed to inject sufficient attacking threat despite appearing more lively than their predecessors. Garnacho, who had scored twice in the first leg, offered nothing constructive from the bench.
