Celtic FC: This international midfielder identified as a primary target while two other deals progress rapidly

Haris Belkebla, an Algerian international and free agent, has reportedly become a primary target for Celtic this summer after his departure from Stade Brestois. The 29-year-old player spent five seasons with the French side but chose not to renew his contract at the Ligue 1 team, opting instead to seek opportunities elsewhere in Europe.

Celtic Faces Competition

The Scottish Premiership side is said to be among several clubs interested in signing Belkebla. However, they face stiff competition from Sheffield United. According to reports out of Algeria, Brendan Rodgers considers the playmaker a main target.

As per Fennec Football’s report, Belkebla is considering a “golden opportunity” to either participate in Champions League or English Premier League football next season while also contemplating options for a move to Saudi Arabia.

In response to rumors about moving to Bramall Lane last month, Belkebla stated: “I have proposals but I haven’t made a choice. Sheffield? I saw it circulating, I wasn’t aware! Why not a challenge abroad? That might interest me.” This indicates that he remains open-minded about potential moves outside France.

Potential Windfalls For Celtic

Apart from recruiting new talent like Belkebla, Celtic is also planning on offloading players such as Albian Ajeti and Ismaila Soro this summer which could bring much-needed cash influx into the club coffers.

Additionally, there are expectations of windfalls from sell-on clauses including one involving Jeremie Frimpong who could net a significant payday for Celtic if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen.

A Spanish report suggests Xabi Alonso won’t obstruct Frimpong’s exit should Real Madrid express interest. It was reported by El Nacional that behind-the-scenes discussions have taken place between the former Bernabeu star and Frimpong regarding a possible transfer. Manchester United has also been mentioned as another potential suitor throughout the summer.
